Resources for Teachers and Educators
The most important educational issue, the one that really matters for students, teachers and schools has finally taken center stage, at least in some public discussions: The disparity in academic success parallels disparities in wealth. the achievement gap The fact that educational success, as measured by any standard, mirrors wealth and status in society has been known for generations. The various explanations for this fact further mirror two fundamentally different views of society and the role of public education in that society. by looking at instructional practices, or curriculum, or maybe some aspect of students' home lives. The fact is that our society provides a hierarchy of resources to students. This is not to say that more resources to schools, and more equitable distribution in those schools, can't counterbalance the inequities outside of school. As a teacher and parent in my middle school, in the small farming community of Soledad, in the Salinas Valley in Central California (Steinbeck country), I understand the huge responsibility to give your children the time and support they need to succeed in school and eventually in life. I have two kids. Some of my students have families much larger than mine. Teaching and Family Life That is why I propose the following exercises to anyone considering entering the teaching profession. doubt there's an experienced teacher out there who has not faced the challenge of dealing with morally controversial issues in the classroom. Whether part of the planned curriculum or emerging from the social context of students' lives, the list of issues seems endless
